Data FocusReader handles

FocusReader locally processes current page HTML when you open reader mode, selected quote text, page title, URL, domain, timestamp, optional category, reader preferences, and local license status.

How data is used

This data is used only to provide reader mode, quote saving, quote organization, Markdown export, and PRO license validation.

Storage and transfer

FocusReader stores saved quotes, preferences, and license status in Chrome local storage on your device. Temporary page captures used for reader mode are kept in Chrome session storage and cleaned up automatically.

Saved quotes, page content, browsing data, reader preferences, and categories are not transmitted to FocusReader servers. After payment, the success page sends a signed license to the installed extension for automatic activation. When FocusReader activates or periodically rechecks PRO, only that license key is sent over HTTPS to the FocusReader license service. Manual entry remains available for recovery. The service returns only whether the license is active.

Payments

FocusReader PRO uses Stripe Managed Payments on Stripe-hosted Checkout. Link acts as merchant of record and Stripe handles payment details, transaction support, fraud, disputes, and applicable indirect taxes. FocusReader does not receive or store card numbers. FocusReader uses the completed Checkout Session only to issue and validate a PRO license.

Aggregate website analytics and campaign attribution

The public website at getfocusreader.com uses Vercel Web Analytics to measure aggregate page views and referrers. Vercel Web Analytics is configured without cookies and reports anonymized website traffic. It is not included in the Chrome extension.

When a website URL contains a supported ref value, FocusReader keeps only that campaign label in browser session storage and sends the same label to Stripe as Checkout metadata. Supported labels identify broad channels such as writer outreach, research outreach, community posts, content, or an approved referral partner. Unknown values become direct. FocusReader does not store an email address, social profile, saved quote, or article content for attribution.

For SaaSHub visits without a campaign parameter, the website can recognize the referring domain if the browser supplies it. Only the broad saashub label is retained for the current session; the referring page URL and its query are not stored for campaign attribution. If the browser hides the referrer, this detection is unavailable. An explicit campaign link takes precedence.

For an approved referral-partner link, FocusReader asks before remembering the partner label in first-party browser storage and a first-party cookie for up to 30 days. Accepting helps preserve attribution if you install the extension and buy PRO later in the same browser. Choosing Not now keeps attribution limited to the current browser session. A later supported non-partner campaign replaces remembered partner attribution, and expired records are removed.

Links from the website to the Chrome Web Store may include utm_source, utm_medium, and utm_campaign labels. Chrome uses these broad campaign labels in aggregate Store listing and install reports. FocusReader does not add an email address, profile identifier, quote, or browsing detail to those links.

Extension activity is not measured by website analytics. FocusReader does not receive analytics about which pages you read, which quotes you save, which categories you use, or what you export.

Internal website checks explicitly marked with qa=1 are excluded from website analytics for that browser tab's session. The flag uses session storage only and can be cleared with qa=0. Internal test links use a separate qa_internal campaign label. Website analytics removes query strings and URL fragments, including payment-session identifiers, before sending page-view data.

Sharing and advertising

FocusReader does not sell user data and does not use it for personalized advertising, retargeting, credit decisions, or unrelated purposes. License validation data is used only to confirm PRO access.

Limited Use disclosure

FocusReader uses information received from Chrome APIs only to provide its single purpose: reader mode and source-backed quote saving. FocusReader's use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
